KEY POINTS:
Catherine Savage, the managing director of AMP Capital, New Zealand's largest funds management company, is leaving to pursue her own private equity interests.
Savage, who has been at AMP for 12 years and at the helm for six, said she felt she was leaving the company in good health and was off for fresh challenges.
"We've done some major transactions ... we've just had our best profit numbers ever, and AMP's going to go into more of a consolidation phase and it was just the right time to hand to someone."
Savage, an accountant by training, was the youngest managing director at AMP Capital when she was appointed at the age of 33 and the first female.
She said she had been investing privately for a while and wanted to give her portfolio her full attention.
