A new $120 million 150-unit apartment block is planned for Auckland CBD's western fringe.
A spokeswoman for property developers Myland Partners said the big new project, Union Green, would be built at 39-47 Union St.
That is near the Southern and Northwestern Motorway onramps at Spaghetti Junction, not far from the new Sugartree apartments which are now under construction between Union St and Nelson St.
Union Green will be built less dense than existing rules allow, giving a bigger outdoor area, the spokeswoman said.
"The site has a current resource for three apartment towers, which could accommodate over 240 units. Myland Partners is varying this to provide for a lower density in order to provide a much higher standard of residential living," she said.
