Johanna Thornton began her journalism career writing features on New Zealand’s best architecturally designed homes for Home magazine. In the 15 years since she’s worked across print and digital in Auckland, London and Amsterdam at titles including Your Home and Garden, Homes to Love and Taste. Most recently she was associate editor of Paperboy, covering the best in Auckland food, culture, urbanism and style. She has been deputy editor of Viva since 2018, working across food, culture, design, fashion and travel and responsible for both Viva’s award-winning weekly print magazine and its digital offering, Viva Premium. Highlights have included winning the Voyager Media Awardsnewspaper inserted magazine of the year2019, producing 10 issues of Viva’s quarterly magazine which launched in 2020 and producing Viva’s Top 50 Auckland Restaurant Awards since 2021.
