Clay Wilson is the Sport News Director for Newstalk ZB. He has worked as a journalist in print, digital and radio.
I've been working in the world of sports journalism since 2010. After realising my lifelong love of sport and skill for writing made the industry a good fit, I conveniently fell into a junior sports reporter role at my local paper, The Marlborough Express in Blenheim. Four years under a great sports editor and covering the local sports beats helped me hone my raw abilities, before a move to Auckland in 2014. The move paid off in spades. It's sent me to many corners of the world, covering a Black Caps test tour to India, a boxing world title fight in front of 90,000 in Cardiff, an Olympic Games and a Rugby World Cup. The travels and the job have allowed me to meet some great people and witness some spectacular moments, and I've been able to tell personal stories of some amazing athletes. The access we're afforded behind the curtain is an absolute privilege and pleasure. What more could a sports tragic want?
