Only nine other Auckland players have been selected for the White Ferns over the past decade.
Green says the Hearts' successful season - they won the Action Cricket one-day competition and were runners-up in the T20s - may have helped the pair.
She's averaged 30 in T20 matches and 25 in one dayers and is reasonably satisfied. Someone who's very satisfied, though, is her dad.
"He's stoked I made the White Ferns," Green says. "I'm the youngest of three daughters and the older two didn't play cricket. He had me down there hitting a ball from about 7. I think I was the son he never had."
Green's cricket in her Victoria Ave Primary School days was in boys' teams until she went to Epsom Girls.
Perkins is also Auckland born and bred, growing up on the North Shore and playing for Takapuna from an early age.
"I got into cricket once I could walk around, playing with my cousins and my Granddad.
"As soon as I knew there was a women's cricket team that played for New Zealand that's what my goal was."
Her dream has been realised, now she's keen to have more time in the middle. "When you are in form, one-dayers are great because you are out there for a long time," says Perkins. "I enjoy both formats but haven't had too many opportunities because Maddy bats ahead of me and keeps getting runs!"
Perkins, a right-hand batswoman, says part of the reason for her form this season is her work. "2011 was a big year of change for me, getting a full-time job after finishing uni, and that's when I got a way better sense of balance in life," she says.
She did a conjoint business and sport and recreation degree at AUT, and is now working in admin for NZ Rugby League.
"That's given me something other than cricket to focus on and it's made me enjoy the game way more. It's a good environment to see elite sport happening around me as well. With people like Ruben Wiki in the office, it's really great to have mentors like that around me every day."
Green has completed her first year at Auckland University doing a Bachelor of Commerce. She'll be kept busy - as well as the Rose Bowl which runs until early February, New Zealand hosts England from February 11 to March 3. For Green and Perkins, the next step is to ensure they make the squad for that series.
