For anyone who considers rugby to be a one or two-dimensional sport, there's an opportunity to see otherwise next week in Auckland.
The final four matches of the Rugby World Cup will be filmed and broadcast in 3D on giant screens up and down the country.
Rugby fans and anyone else that's curious about how this will look can get a sneak preview all day at Aotea Square on Tuesday, May 17.
Two Semi Finals, the Bronze Final and the Grand Final will be screened in 3D at indoor stadiums and cinemas. In Auckland, the matches will be broadcast live at Vector Arena as well as cinemas.
A 12m long truck containing a 3D screen showing footage of Super 15 and Six Nations Rugby matches is touring the length of the country throughout May so people can see 3D sport for themselves and Aucklanders are invited to visit the truck at Aotea Square on Tuesday, May 17 between 10.30am and 8.30pm.
With 3D cameras, spectators can see everything in focus - front line and back line players - and wide angle shots show more of the field at once.
Eight 3D cameras will film from around the edge of the pitch, including a high-speed railcam which follows players the entire length of the field. The cameras look across the field, enhancing the sense of depth and giving viewers the equivalent of a "moving front row seat".
Production company 3D Live will also broadcast its 3D footage live with its own experienced commentary team via satellite to global TV audiences, including Sky TV in New Zealand.
