Police are warning tradespeople and anyone building a new house to be extra vigilant with tools, materials and appliances, following a spate of thefts from North Shore building sites.
Inspector Shanan Gray, North Shore Area Commander, says the North Shore housing boom has brought with it an unwanted increase in theft from construction sites.
"A recent example we had was a house that was nearly finished but wasn't at the stage where it could be locked up. The entire kitchen appliance package was delivered, and someone broke in and stole a number of the appliances"
says Inspector Gray.
Tools and equipment that have been left at homes under construction over the weekends have also been stolen. Enquiries are underway to establish whether the thefts are linked but as investigations continue Police are warning people to be extra vigilant.
"Thieves will take any opportunity you can give them, there's nothing more frustrating for a tradesman to have the things they use to make a living pinched from them. Don't become a victim of theft, make sure your tools are in a secure place or take them with you."
