One couple on the upcoming season of the hit TV show recently sold a designer home for more than $1 million on Auckland's rural west coast.
Contestants Corban and Alexandra Walls spent three years building the luxury coastal property at Muriwai before selling in May through high-end realtor Sotheby's International.
The property fetched $1.24 million, real estate industry sources said.
The modern eco-container home was designed by Walls and an architect friend, with fashion buyer wife Alexandra adding the finishing interior design touches.
Sotheby's agent Shane Romani said she had been instructed by Walls' lawyer to say nothing until August 28. Earlier promotional material indicated that the lifestyle property was geared at buyers in the seven-figure bracket.
Mediaworks spokeswoman for The Block NZ, Megan Stuart, said the couple would not comment on the house sale. "That's personal information."
The north-facing home, perched on 1.2ha overlooking the bushclad Taiapa Valley, was constructed from six 12m-high containers.
Sotheby's listed the property as an extraordinary architecturally designed three-bedroom, two-bathroom home. Fittings included a hi-spec Avantgarde European Leicht kitchen, sandstone flooring, an outdoor bath and sheltered courtyard.
The third season of the popular reality property show recently began filming in Auckland's Pt Chevalier, and is due to go to air this month. The show pits four couples against one another to makeover four houses, collecting weekly prizes and pocketing the profits when the renovated properties are auctioned.
Also competing on this year's series are Ben and Quinn Alexandre from Christchurch; Maree Wright and James Steele from South Auckland; and Damo and Jo Neal from Feilding.
