Police are searching for Abdul Hafiz who they want to speak to in relation to an alleged firearms incident in Papatoetoe

Counties Manukau Police are searching for Abdul Hafiz who they want to speak to in relation to an alleged firearms incident in Papatoetoe this morning.

He is not believed to be carrying a firearm but should not be approached.

Earlier a South Auckland school was put in lockdown as police hunted for a man they believed to be armed and making threats against his family.

Police Northern Communications Shift Inspector Andy Brill said armed police were called to a Mangere address shortly before 9am.

They were looking for a man believed to be armed and making threats against his family.

"We had a fire arms incident where we were looking for a person in the South Auckland area."

Two firearms have also been recovered.

Schools were put in temporary lock down while the AOS cleared an address but have since reopened.

If any member of the public sees Abdul they should call 111 immediately.
