Right now it's a narrow one-way street most famous for a restaurant, the O'Connell St Bistro, some historic buildings and a few fashion stores, but Auckland Council hopes to improve all that.
Submissions are now open for people to have their say on the central city's O'Connell St, which will be upgraded like a number in the area.
Others, like nearby Vulcan Lane, have become pedestrian friendly and that's the aim of this upgrade as well. Plans online (see here) show pedestrians will be given priority.
Auckland Council says the intention is to provide a "high quality sustainable streetscape which gives pedestrians priority and supports businesses and residents by providing more space for outdoor activities".
"Our street upgrades aim to transform streets into people-friendly destinations where you can sit, relax, dine and spend time in the city," says Ludo Campbell-Reid, Auckland Council's design champion. "They are an integral part of our vision to make Auckland the world's most livable city."
