Waitakere City Mayor Bob Harvey has been inducted into the New Zealand Advertising Hall of Fame.
He joins former Wellington mayor Sir James Belich and past Dobbs Wiggins managing director Fred Dobbs as the inaugural inductees.
``I'm deeply honoured to be acknowledged by the advertising industry of New Zealand for my 30 years in the industry,'' says Mr Harvey. ``My greatest marketing achievement has been creating the city of Waitakere.''
Mr Harvey co-founded the MacHarman Advertising Agency, later MacHarman Ayer, in 1962 and watched the company grow to build an annual turnover of more than $17 million.
Clients included the New Zealand Police, ACC, Fisher and Paykel, Watties and Cooks Wine.
Mr Harvey says a career highlight was the 1968 Save Manapouri Campaign to save the South Island lake from being flooded by the Government's Manapouri hydro-electric scheme.
He was involved in the 1969, 1972, 1974 and 1984 Labour Party election campaigns and was election strategist for longtime Auckland City mayor Dove Myer-Robinson and successors Colin Kay and Dame Cath Tizard.
In 1990 Mr Harvey was invited to join the marketing committee of the new Auckland Children's Hospital to help develop a brand which could be marketed across the Pacific.
Within a week he create the Starship identity.
