As power is gradually restored Auckland City Police continue to work alongside their partner agencies to ensure public safety.
A fire at the Gavin St Ellerslie substation caused a major power outage in Auckland on Sunday morning.
At this stage there are only 4 intersections normally run by traffic lights being controlled by Police on point duty, the others being run either by restored power or by generator.
They are:
Mt Wellington Highway / Sylvia Park Carbine Road / Sylvia Park St Johns Road /Meadowbank Road St Johns Road / Gerard Way
Homeowners and business owners are encouraged to take extra security precautions wherever possible as some alarms may be affected.
Auckland Central Police would like to reassure the public that our focus continues to be to maintain law and order and provide emergency assistance if and when required.
"The Operations Planning Group are working on an Auckland Metro approach including staff from Counties Manukau and Waitemata districts and are prepared to cover the area in question for the foreseeable future.
We are working closely with the Auckland Emergency Co-Ordination Centre and other agencies and will continue to do so until the situation is resolved" says Acting Superintendent Jim Wilson, Acting Auckland City Police District Commander.
Police would like to remind anyone who thinks they can take advantage of the current situation that there will be a zero tolerance approach to any offending.
"There will be high visibility reassurance patrols as well as extra Police staff throughout the affected residential and commercial areas overnight and until the situation is rectified" says Acting Superintendent Wilson.
