Auckland is an increasingly attractive option for Aussies and Kiwis wanting to make the most of the four-day weekend.
With the Easter holidays in arm's reach, travel search engine, Skyscanner has released new data showing Auckland has sneaked into the top five destinations this weekend for both countries recording significant year-on-year growth in searches.
Climbing two spots to fifth place on Australia's list of top travel destinations this Easter, Auckland displaced local hotspots Perth and the Gold Coast. Auckland is also gaining popularity at home recording a 247 per cent year-on-year growth in searches, just behind adventure capital Queenstown.
Kiwis looking for a slice of Easter escape overseas are heading to Australia but this year Sydney has been toppled by rival city Melbourne, which claims the 2016 throne for most searched destination.
The Gold Coast remains a stable choice for Kiwis seeking sunshine getaways over the long weekend, remaining in the top five for the second year running.
