Having Kevin Spacey as its star signalled to me that Horrible Bosses was going to have that creepy factor.
The American Beauty star teams up with other big names like Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman and Colin Farrell for what would be a standard comedy, were it not for the murderousintent of three men trying to make a living but held back by their bosses.
Spacey's character reneges on a promise to give Bateman a promotion. Aniston, as one of the other bosses, spurs her employee to contemplate her murder by repeatedly attempting to lure him into sick sex-acts behind his fiancee's back. Aniston seems far removed from her Friends days.
The other boss, an unrecognisable Farrell, takes over his father's chemical company and brings his easy ladies and hard drugs into the big office.
Over a beer, the three employees decide murder is their only option so hunt out a hitman - with a name too rude for a newspaper, and played by Jamie Foxx - to get the job done.
Horrible Bosses will have you laughing, sometimes at things so sick you wish the person in the seat beside you didn't know you found it funny.
It's been described as better than The Hangover and, while you do get a few good belly laughs in, it's still unlikely to become one of those cult movies you remember for years.
The last 10 minutes or so are the best with it seeming impossible for the three heroes, trying to do an honest 9 to 5, to get away without jail time.
