One of the most frightening places in Auckland is being taken over by the Easter Bunny to share laughter, joy and more than a little chocolate this month.
The Amazing Maze 'n Maize at Kingseat is hosting the Giant Easter Egg Hunt every day over Easter weekend. The Easter bunny will be hiding thousands of eggs throughout the maze during the weekend.
The Giant Easter egg hunt is held during the four days of Easter between 11am and 2pm, at the Amazing Maze 'n Maize huge cornfield maze. The Easter bunny will be glimpsed running around hiding eggs throughout the maze, and participants' task is to find the bunny, find the eggs, and then find their way out of the 6-hectare maze.
During an average 60 minutes in the maze, there are also more than 100 kernels of knowledge, or trivia signs giving insights into weird and wacky facts.
A quiz can be completed to fill in the time while being happily lost, or it serves as a scorecard for the more competitive visitors. The maze itself is cut into a design featuring weird and wacky science.
Spookers general manager Julia Watson says Easter is a chance for all ages to experience some of the amusement park attractions.
"This is a wonderful Easter weekend of entertainment for all family members," she says.
"This year there will be a Giant Easter Egg Hunt by night. On Easter Sunday from 7pm, with the last entry at 9pm, your family can hunt for the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs by torchlight. This is such a magic experience for children."
While Spookers is notorious as a horror setting, it also moonlights by day as a venue for kids.
Ms Watson says Day Mazes are extremely popular with families, school trips, and social outings for clubs. "School holidays are particularly busy and the maze activities are especially well liked by babysitting grandparents."
The Amazing Maze is open every day from 10am-5pm during the school holidays until May 1.
Bad craziness
The CornEvil Haunted Horror Maze is touted as the most adrenalin pumping and madcap entertainment possible in a field of corn. Anywhere between 18 and 25 actors are dressed up, made up, and dispatched to scare the yell out of visitors.
CornEvil is strictly R16 and there is no entry without ID showing proof of age. It is not for the faint hearted and definitely not suitable for children.
CornEvil is on every Friday and Saturday night at Spookers, which is situated at Kingseat, Karaka and the season closes on April 30.
