New Bay Steamers coach Kevin Schuler must be rubbing his hands together with the options now presenting themselves for the pivot role in the upcoming ITM Cup season. Steamers and current Highlanders duo Chris Noakes are getting regular game time in the Jamie Joseph lead side.
Something Te Puke coach Craig Jeffries says is all McCashin needs to break through to the next level.
"I just think he his playing outstanding rugby at the moment. You see some of these Super Rugby first-fives that are playing the game. I just think Cash needs a chance. He needs good ball to play with, he's an exceptional talent," Jeffries said.
"He's just got to get a consistent start at NPC level and he's not getting that. So hopefully this year the Bay will see the light. He's directing the game week in, week out."
McCashin said he was totally focused on the club season but was a proud Bay player and would be keen to wear the blue and gold hoops of the Steamers and even grabbing a Super Rugby contract.
"I'm just getting more game time and trying to improve and I want to play for the Bay, my hearts in the Bay. I'd be just grateful for any opportunity to show what I can offer."
McCashin wasn't the only Te Puke player to score a swag of tries. Left winger Jack Wilson touch down five times at the weekend, he was like a wrecking ball on attack - either smashing through the defence or swooping around the outside of would be tacklers.
Unfortunately for Waikite they had no answer for Te Puke's onslaught. They missed too many first up tackles and look directionless at times.
For the first time in possibly Waikite's history, their forwards were dwarfed by their opposition and they struggled with the concept, with Te Puke scoring at more than a point a minute throughout the whole game.
Although Waikite managed to catch Te Puke on the hop, thanks to a quick tap by right winger Ihaia Herewini. The first half was almost like a training run by the visitors who racked up 56 points (eight converted tries) before the oranges were handed out.
Waikite are never ones to give up easily and their forwards showed their strength in the scrum but they never really had the impetus to pull themselves out of the mire.
It took Te Puke nearly 10 minutes to put points on the board in the second half and once they did the floodgates opened and they notched up another four more tries to end the game 89-5.
Meanwhile in the other matches, Rotoiti continued their unbeaten run with a hard fought victory over Opotiki at Emery Park winning 30-21. The bonus point from four touchdowns ensured that they joined Te Puke Sports on the top of the standings. Beau Keil grabbed two tries for the home team with Whakataki Cunningham and Quaid Langeveldt adding a touchdown apiece. The Opotiki tries were awarded to Luke Morris and Tareha Walker.
Whakarewarewa moved into third place on the standings with a 46-10 win against Rangataua in the Western Bay. There was just a three-point margin until Whaka cut loose in the last twelve minutes to run in five tries.
Tauranga Sports recorded back to back victories getting past Te Puna at Maramatanga Park 31-19 with Mount Maunganui posting their first win grabbing a 42-17 victory against Greerton Marist.
