Western Heights High School's boys and girls volleyball teams have both had wins on day one of the Massey University NZ Secondary Schools Championships in Palmerston North.
In the boys' pool matches, defending champions Western Heights High School had two comfortable wins as did Tauranga Boys College, Westlake Boys High School, Trident High School A, Otumoetai College A, Orewa College, Waimea College Gold, Rangitoto College A, Riccarton High School and Manurewa High School.
In the girls, Western Heights High School fought out a tough five set win over top seeds Marlborough Girls College A.
Play continues for the rest of the week with a record 172 teams playing on 19 courts at CET Arena Manawatu and on three courts at Massey University.
