Western Heights High School have finished eighth in the Maadi Cup.

The Maadi Cup Regatta came to a close today in Twizel with the the under-18 boys coxed eights A final.

The coxed eights A final decides the winner of the Maadi Cup each year, and is the most prestigious race in New Zealand secondary schools rowing.

Western Heights were the first Rotorua rowing crew to qualify for the A final of the eights since Rotorua Boys' High School in 2006.

Western Heights finished eighth in the final today.

Hamilton Boys' High School won the race in a time of 5min 55.84sec, 13 seconds in front of Western Heights.

The Rotorua school did not lose the race though, with Westlake Boys High School finishing behind them in ninth.
