He was the only rider to go under two minutes on the track yesterday, with his nearest rival Kawerau's Matt Walker finishing three seconds behind him with a time of 2min 01sec.
The winner of the women's race yesterday was Lower Hutt's Sarah Atkin, who just edged out Jenna Matgill.
Local rider Walker, brother of Olympic silver medallist Sarah Walker, said it was a great ride yesterday.
"It was so much fun. I did it last year, it was a bit more technical this year.
"There was a lot of dust but it was such a good track."
Walker also took part in the national downhill champs last weekend during the opening weekend of the Rotorua Bike Festival, finishing fifth.
He said he was really enjoying the 10-day Rotorua festival which comes to a close tomorrow.
Other local riders who did well yesterday at the Sprint Warrior included Rotorua downhill rider Louis Hamilton.
"It has been awesome, aye. Such a good track," he said, after his final run.
"There was a few more little jumps and technical pieces [this year]. And there was a lot of noise from all the locals."
Hamilton said he was blown away by the crowds at some of the events this week, including the Dual Slalom event on Thursday night at OGO Rotorua.
Two big events still remain this weekend during the closing two days of the Rotorua Bike Festival, both of which will start and finish on Tutanekai St. The Giant 2W Gravity Enduro will be staged today from 10am and the Telecom Inner City Street Criterium will be held tomorrow from 2.30pm, which will be especially good for spectators.
