John Moore knows better than anyone - a good win is like a fine wine. It takes time for it to happen.
Its been more than a year since the strapping lock has been able to lace up his boots and take to the field, due to a shoulder injury.
He got his chance playing in the Bay of Plenty Development Team's come-from-behind 29-27 win against Auckland at Blake Park during the weekend.
Coming off the bench Moore admitted he wasn't that keen to take to the field 10 minutes into the game, after lock Mata McGrath was helped off the field with a knee injury.
"Yeah I was a little nervous getting on so soon but I was happy to be there, once I got into it."
Its been a long time coming for the 32-year-old to return to rep rugby but it was definitely worth the wait.
"Ask me tomorrow about how the body's feeling - but it was great to be a part of this [the win]. We don't often beat Auckland so today was a good day for me."
Although he didn't get a lot of ball in hand he did a lot of work in the tight and looked to get around the paddock at a good clip to help get numbers to the breakdown for the Bay.
The game itself wasn't the prettiest to watch, with nothing for the Bay supporters to enjoy in the first 60 minutes, except a beautiful and warm spring Tauranga day.
The Bay seemed to struggle with dry weather rugby, with the backline moves breaking down or players reluctant to run straight.
Auckland were their typical aggressive selves, with the forwards making the advantage line and looking to offload to the next player.
The first points to Auckland came from a simple blindside move from the No 8 Pom Simona making space for his halfback Vasa Falaeeleii to go around under the post untouched.
The try was converted by first five-eighth Ash Moeke, who would kick five from five for the day for Auckland.
Bay of Plenty first five-eighth Whakataki Cunningham would kick two penalties to have the home team going into the break 6-10 down.
Auckland were the first to score in the second half with a penalty after the Bay backline were caught offside.
Stand-in coach Rod Gibbs said "the boys" lacked direction and possession in the first half with the team not really firing until the last 20 minutes of the game.
"We realised we needed to hold on to the ball and get some go forward."
It was individual brilliance from replacement back Chad Tuoro that started the excitement for the Bay as he sliced through some weak tackling to score the first of Bay of Plenty's two tries.
Auckland scored a try, then Tuoro would become the villain a few minutes later when he was given 10 minutes in the bin and Auckland were awarded a penalty try for Tuoro deliberately knocking the ball down.
With only a few minutes left on the clock and Auckland ahead 27-26, it was left up to Bay fullback Nick McCashin to convert a penalty 40m out which he did comfortably - final score 29-27 Bay of Plenty.
In the curtainraiser Bay of Plenty Under 18 beat Counties Manukau 45-29.
Bay of Plenty 29 (Chad Tuoro, Chris Elvin tries; Whakataki Cunningham 2 pen, Nick McCashin 2 con, 3 pen) Auckland 27 (Vasa Falaeeleii, Pom Simona, pen-try, tries; Ash Moeke 5 con) halftime 6-10.
