Taupo will host the Black Sticks women for two tests against China at the end of March.
The team have never played in Taupo, but the New Zealand men's side have played there only once, beating Malaysia 2-1 in 2009.
Taupo mayor David Trewavas said it was a real coup for the district.
"We have great facilities for hockey in Taupo and the investment in the turf, which the community contributed to both through rates and fundraising, is now paying dividends," he said on the Hockey NZ website.
The Black Sticks Women, who are in San Diego playing Great Britain and the United States, are building up for the 2014 World Cup in Holland in May.
Hockey New Zealand's event manager Richard Palmer said they would keep the tickets affordable and there would be family passes available.
