Central have eye on T20 silverware

They struggle on the one-day cricket scene but come Twenty20 and Central have a chance to grab some silverware.

Central are one of four teams (Cadets, Greerton and Tauranga Boys' College) who share the lead in the Lonestar Rotorua and Tauranga Twenty20 competition, which resumes tomorrow.

The inaugural Baywide T20 road show, has already visited Rotorua and the Eastern Bay of Plenty, with tomorrow's rounds being played at Fergusson Park in Tauranga.

With many of the top premier players away on representative duties the competition has been left wide open with six of the eight teams having a realistic chance of grabbing the title.

Central take on Tauranga Boys' College, tomorrow morning, in round five of the competition and will be looking to make amends for last weekend's loss Williams Cup loss to the same side.

The Rotorua side have taken a shine to the shorter version of the game with a impressive display against Te Puke.

Central set a total of 117/6 then bowled Te Puke out for a just 89.

Central will be hoping Nick Patchell can repeat the form he showed against Te Puke, where he scored 48 not out.

Despite the form book being against Bay of Plenty Indians, the Rotorua side will be hoping they can claw themselves of the bottom of the points table when they play East Bay United.

Both sides are yet to win a match in the T20 competition.

In the match-up between Greerton and Mount Maunganui, there is a high possibility of a run-fest.

While Greerton will be without master blaster Brett Hampton (on Bay rep duty), they have several batsmen in good form in the Williams Cup.

Shane Wineti leads the Williams Cup batting stats with 270 runs averaging 67 runs per game, with Craig Budd also in good touch.

Although Mount Maunganui lose five players to the Bay side, who are playing Poverty Bay at the BOP Cricket Oval, the real strength of the club is the ability of the club's second tier players to step up and make their mark.

Former premier captain Blair Parlane, who is playing reserve grade cricket this season, is one who will always answer the Mount call to duty.

In the other round five games, Cadets meet Te Puke who are sitting on four points in the competition - equal with Mount Maunganui.

Mid-afternoon round six matches see Greerton against Central, Te Puke meeting Tauranga Boys, East Bay United verses Cadets and Mount Maunganui facing the Indians.
