I think as long as the parents still spend time with their kids in the weekend then they would be fine. Daycare is great, they nurture the children as if at home (if it's a good daycare).
Rebecca Knowles
Having children going to childcare is saving some of NZ's most vulnerable children - everyone needs a break and on the other hand lots of families NEED to work to survive not just for the sweet things in life.
Lisa Rimmer
I don't believe seeing kids on the weekends is enough. No wonder we have kids with issues. Time spent with our kids is the best investment we can make in this lifetime ... not work work work.

Based on my experience with my three sons, I'd say this report is rubbish. The oldest is excelling in most areas and isn't "damaged", the middle one is also thriving in a completely different schooling environment and the baby is around his aunties and cousins each and every day.

Kids are too wrapped up in bubble wrap these days.
Kelly Stewart
Just a propaganda scare tactic to instil fear into parents so the government can cut back on funding. If there was any weakness in daycare, it is the lack of males teaching the children the meaning of no and consequences to rules. Most daycares are too feminine, have a male at a daycare and the children of solo mothers benefit immensely.
Bill Hedges
There are too many flaws in that report to mention, looks like the author cobbled up a range of concepts from as many reference sources as he could find, did no real research, and likely charged one of NZ's charitable trusts a fortune for it. I want to know where the money came from to pay for that crap so I can make sure none of it was tax I paid ... what a waste of money.
Lisa MacFarlane
First question I want to ask does this doctor have children ... another point he makes is that full-time parenting should be a right, yes it should be but sometimes families cannot sustain their right for a house, power bills, food bills etc without money. Some parents don't want to work while their children are young but some can simply not afford to ... I think centres are loving, caring and accommodating environments, staff are there to do a job they are paid for yes, but also in being a teacher you have the compassion and emphatic concept that you are caring and teaching our next generation and the child is someone else's that you are caring for.
Elizabeth Coppard
Doubled-edged sword isn't it, that time at home with the family and having one-on-one care by a mother willing and able to give it is essential in nourishing young minds, however not being able to feed your child because you don't have any money is also doing harm.
Lisa Adlam
New Zealand families are harming their children - not from day care but from atrocious diets - overweight kids, some less than 6 years old shows how little families really care about their children. It is a form of child abuse, kids don't know what to eat, they will eat anything that tastes good, parents should know better and if they don't they should be made aware of the criminal implications of this form of child abuse.

Raggamuffin still rocks
I'm proud to say I sold the first Bob Marley record in Rotorua (at Liberation records in the old Geyser Court) thanks to Tui Lemon.
I went to the Bob Marley April 16, 1979, gig at Western Springs in Auckland with our "Rotorua Reggae Movement" friends. In 1985, I went to Jamaica and met Junior Marvin at their Sunsplash Reggae Festival and I gave him a pic of him from the NZ show. Well, we met up on Sat thanks to Sandra Roberts and I gave him a book Live Gigs That Rocked New Zealand which has five pages on the Bob Marley gig. Reggae music and happy vibes may it stay alive in Rotorua.

Doobies take it to the streets
The Doobies were as they always have been - great. Their new music shows the creativity of a band that does not rely on past laurels all the time. LRB - a great warm-up act. The other two acts were time-wasters and added nothing to the event except to make it longer to no advantage.
