The Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was dispatched the Tongariro Crossing this afternoon, between the Ketetahi hut and the bush line, to a 30-year-old woman who had injured her ankle.
Despite her best intention to solider on, the pain became too great and the call for help was made, a helicopter spokesperson said.
She was flown to Taupo Hospital.
