Two Rotorua men frustrated about constantly missing local events have used their IT expertise to solve the problem.

After months of planning, designing and troubleshooting, Matt Browning and Danny McCullum have launched Around Town - Rotorua, an electronic app that collates all the events happening around the city.

The events are divided into categories and can be tailored to each user's personal preferences.

About Town - Rotorua can be downloaded on both Apple and android devices and is free to use.

"Danny and I were finding quite frequently we were missing out on awesome events because we didn't know anything about them. People would tell us about these cool events after they had happened," Mr Browning said.

"We asked around and realised there were a lot of people in the same boat, so thought of
ways we could solve the problem.

"We both have backgrounds in computing and IT so thought we'd try our hand at making an app."

Mr Browning said Around Town - Rotorua was the first app they had created but they had two more in the pipelines.

"We released the app to our family and friends last week to trial and we received really positive feedback, so then we released it to the general public.

"So far, the response has been phenomenal. We've had people come to us saying they love the app and we've even had community groups wanting to list with us, it's great."

Event listings can be submitted for free on the website, www.aroundtown.co.nz, and are moderated before being posted to the app.

"It started as an idea and has grown into a great tool that will keep the community up to date with everything going on in Rotorua."
