The West End traffic lights went out again this weekend, only a few days after the last outage.
The intersection on the corner of Malfroy and Old Taupo Rds (State Highway 5) has been experiencing intermittent outages since Saturday night.
Sergeant Simon Paget at Rotorua police said they had the same problem a few days ago.
"I'd like to know the answer to why that particular set of lights keep going out," he said.
"Hopefully they're back up and running before the busy traffic tomorrow morning."
On both occasions Rotorua police have sent traffic officers to monitor the intersection.
"Usually people obey the rules and things tend to be okay," he said.
"People just need to remember the road code in situations like this."
A media spokeswoman for the New Zealand transport agency said they attended and fixed the fault on Saturday night.
"The intersection, including the traffic signals and the asphalt are to be upgraded very soon. We expect work to start in May, but this is weather dependant," she said.
However the lights were out again this morning and NZTA did not respond to questions about why they were out again.
The lights were on again at 5pm today.
