Traffic lights at the intersection of Old Taupo and Malfroy Rd are now operating normally.

Earlier:

Contractors are working to fix traffic lights at a busy Rotorua intersection, which are down for the second consecutive day.

The lights at the Old Taupo Rd and Malfroy Rd intersection went down around 4pm yesterday.

A Rotorua Lakes Council spokesman said contractors got the traffic lights working late last night but they went down again later.

He said the contractors were still onsite working on the problem.

Many readers commented the lights were often playing up.

"They are always broken! Something major needs to be done about that intersection its an accident waiting to happen," said one.

Another said: "I think the roading company could paint a roundabout at those lights, they go out often enough."
