New Zealand's Terenzo Bozzone leads the field off the 180km bike at Ironman New Zealand. While there is still plenty of running to do and time on the clock, the Aucklander is threatening a fairytale win at his home Ironman event.
Bozzone has been on the podium five times since his debut in 2008 but has never stood on the highest step. A win would be hugely emotional for Bozzone and his family who are watching him and his brother Dino race, but also for the huge crowd lining the run course and the finish line area at the Great Lakes Centre.
Hot on the heels of Bozzone was Joe Skipper, of Great Britain. They entered transition together, before Bozzone put 48 seconds on Skipper inside the first 3km of the run. The main chase group was over five minutes behind and included Mike Phillips, Simon Cochrane, Dylan McNeice and Cameron Brown.
In the women's race it was Jocelyn McCauley, of USA, and Laura Siddall, of Great Britain, riding into transition together, with 7km left to ride, and with a small lead over debutant Kiwi Teresa Adam who earlier led out of the water.
