She said, to her knowledge, about half a dozen other Filipinos living locally were still to hear from their families in that area.
"There are Filipinos in Rotorua that have family in Tacloban and they have not heard from anyone since Friday."
She said it was very difficult to communicate with people in that area of the country following the devastation.
Mrs Andrews said people were being urged to donate money for the disaster relief efforts.
She said an appeal had been started by the Federation of Filipino Associations, Societies and Clubs in New Zealand.
"Many people have no home, no food, no water so we need to help. By giving money we can buy food and drink for them."
Mrs Andrews, who is vice-president of the Filipino federation, said people in Rotorua could give money at donation boxes set up at Goldiluck Store on Hinemoa St and the Fiesta Pinoy Asian Shop on Amohia St.
People can also give directly to the federation through its bank account.
Practical goods like non-perishable food can also be taken to the Red Cross on Rangiuru St for the appeal.
Another Filipino living in Rotorua, who did not want to be named, said it was very sad to see all the devastation back home.
She said she had stopped watching the news because she would start crying when she saw the aftermath.
About 1500 Filipinos live and work in Rotorua.
