Two people have been seriously hurt after a two-vehicle collision near Ngongotahā.

The crash was reported about 11.40am Sunday at the Central Rd and State Highway 36 intersection and the road was closed.

Initial reports suggested two people were in serious condition, police said in a statement.

SH36 reopened around 2pm.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were under way.
