Two children airlifted from Whakatane Hospital

Two children required rapid response flights from Whakatane Hospital this week.

The Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched at 2.30pm on Wednesdayto Whakatane Hospital to airlift an 8-year-old girl with a post-surgery tonsil bleed.

The young girl required urgent specialist surgery and was flown on a rapid-response flight to Tauranga Hospital.

Yesterday, the Trustpower TECT Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to Whakatane Hospital again, this time for a 7-month-old boy requiring specialist surgery for an abscess that was compromising his airway.

He was airlifted to Waikato Hospital, accompanied by his grandmother.
