A trial of a truck driver facing a manslaughter charge following a crash at Atiamuri near Rotorua has been set down for at least seven days.
Daniel William Raukawa Taukava, 41, a heavy truck/tanker driver from Auckland, appeared in the High Court at Rotorua today. He has previously pleaded not guilty to manslaughter, an alternative charge of dangerous driving causing death, and four Land Transport Act charges including making a false statement in a logbook, failing to have 10 hours' rest and failing to deliver his logbook to his employer.
The charges relate to a crash in January 2017 on State Highway 1 at Atiamuri where motorcyclist Te Wanehi Wakefield, 56, from Taradale, was killed.
The trial is set to start on November 19.
Justice Kit Toogood said two weeks had been set down for the trial but it was anticipated it would be over within seven days.
