"She is a highly energetic and vivacious character," Tane said.
"This fits so well with all of her own personal values."
Tane said the box had only just gone out into reception but already contained a few donations.
"It's visible and accesible for everyone.
"We have great student engagement whenever we work on a charity project, I would not be surprised if we see that from the students with this."
Tane said growing up in New Zealand Christmas had always been a significant celebration.
"It almost signifies the start of summer and the start of the holidays.
"It's a big part of our culture and I like to think that's something we would want for everybody."
She said Rotorua was small enough that it felt like everybody knew each other.
"This is an opportunity for our staff, our students and our community to realise there are people out there who are struggling.
"With appeals like this it doesn't take much to get a movement going and to really create something.
"It doesn't take much to give something small to something like this and know it can be part of something quite big."
Tane said she looked forward to not only the Toi Ohomai community, but all of Rotorua getting in behind this year's appeal.
Rotorua Lakes Council, the Rotorua courts, Oranga Tamariki office and Rotorua Hospital are just some of the other businesses that have their boxes out.
