The most-read story online this week was about a novice angler who landed a 5.2kg trout in Lake Okareka, one of the largest to have been caught in that lake.
Cambridge schoolboy Campbell Ware, 17, landed the fish after a 20-minute pre-dawn fight over last weekend, during the Lake Okareka Fishing Club's annual winter tournament.
The teenager has only been fishing since the start of this year. He said he was "pretty stoked" with the catch, which was being mounted by Rotorua taxidermist Ray Port.
The fish scored Campbell two prizes in the tournament, heaviest adult male and best condition factor.
