The women's race was dominated by Aucklanders as Emma McCosh finished in a time of 3h 55m 54s, more than 10 minutes ahead of rivals Sandrine Dourain (2nd) and Debbie Chambers (3rd) who finished with times of 4h 12m 20s and 4h 20m 39s respectively.
The weekend event also hosted 22km, 11km, and 6km races and it was a real family affair for the Corporaals' as 15-year-old son, Kaya, who attends Western Heights High School, took part in the half distance race, finishing in sixth place.
"It was a special day for the family.
"Both me and my young fella love running and the different distance options suited us really well. This event is pretty unique in that there really is something for the whole family," said Corporaal.
The 22km distance was won by Ed Whiting, of New Plymouth, in a clinical time of 1h 40m 44s as he finished nearly 8 minutes ahead of second-placed Whakatane runner Sam Clarke, who completed the course in 1h 48m 39s.
"I really had no idea what to expect of the course - it was pretty up there in terms of technicality but it was a good mix of bush and farmland which I loved," said Whiting
