Stars of TV3's reality dating show The Bachelor New Zealand have spent a romantic date on White Island.
The episode, which aired last night, saw bachelor Arthur Green take bachelorette Alysha Brown to the popular spot. She was one of six women still left on the show last night.
MissBrown, who is originally from Invercargill, told the Rotorua Daily Post she did not know White Island existed.
"It was incredible, it really was, just because I didn't know what we were going to be doing there and it just seemed like it was one surprise after the other."
She said it was one of the most exciting things she had done on the show.
"We had to helicopter to get over there in the first place and that was exciting on its own, let alone the rest of the date.
"When we landed we walked around a little bit looking at the buildings and there was quite a lot, they were almost like ruins, and all the rocks - we were both quite interested in that side of things. Then we had a tour guide brief us on the island. We went over to the crater where the sulphur is and we went around the other side of the island where there was a gannet colony and that was quite cool because they had all their baby chicks. We had a little dip in a natural hot pool. It was a nice day trip. It was a pretty romantic trip, probably not your typical date."
She said the trip was not something she would have done herself. "It's probably not something that would have been on my to-do list, but very different for a date and it was very cool."
Whakatane's Frontier Helicopters flew the couple to White Island. However, for reasons of confidentiality they were unable to speak to the Rotorua Daily Post yesterday.
