There is a truckload of great work going on by Rotorua police and the following is a just small snapshot of the last two weeks:
Constables John Ure and Brad Smith were involved in a pursuit which successfully culminated in the arrest of three burglars for offending in Hamilton and Rotorua.
Constable Glen Martin nabbed a prolific burglar.
Glen chased this offender around the block as he backtracked and jumped fences before catching him with the assistance of a member of public. Nice.
Constables Rob Ball, Pete Rameka and the Blue Light team organised the Blue Light Kids Fishing Day (in their own time).
I've heard many positive remarks about smiling kids catching some big fish.
Sergeant Steve Sutton, Constable Damien White and Mark Enright and other officers ran a very successful Cactus boot camp in Western Heights.
The graduation saw 20 smiling students and their families were as proud as punch of their achievements.
Constables Mike West, Buck Raines and Senior Sergeant Keenan uncovered a large cannabis cultivation house in Rotorua.
Constables Whiteman, Rameka and Acting Sergeant Kyle Lemon professionally dealt with a very serious and complicated domestic that involved suicide attempts and many hostile parties. Their policing expertise ensured that everyone was kept safe.
On his days off Kyle is a New Zealand wood-chopping champion.
Detective Sarah Bishop dealt with a whole series of very serious child sex offending. The child sex offender received 15-plus years imprisonment. Detective Bishop's attention to detail and professionalism is exceptional.
More than $7000 was raised for children with diabetes in Rotorua at the annual Rotorua police golf tournament. Excellent organisation by Sergeant Cassidy, Detective Sergeant Staunton and Detective Matt McLeod.
For the officers concerned, they will tell you this is fairly routine work - but what is routine for us is pretty significant for the people who have been involved in a car crash, been burgled, or at worst - murdered. To the cops that work in this beautiful city - take a bow.
You should be rightfully proud of your great and hard earned reputation as fine police officers.
Take care out there.
