A 17-year-old has escaped serious injury after she allegedly stole a police patrol car before losing control and crashing it through a fence and into a parked car.
The incident happened in Pukehangi, Rotorua in the early hours of this morning.
In a written statement to the Rotorua Daily Post,
Rotorua Area Commander Inspector Anaru Pewhairangi said officers were responding to a report just after midnight of two people acting suspiciously in the area.
"After speaking with the pair the woman was placed in the police vehicle so they could be given a ride home.
"The man refused to get in the police car, and while officers were dealing with him the woman has driven off in the police vehicle.
