"Our main expense each year is vet costs, so all monies raised come back to the shelter so we can provide care for animals in need of treatment."
Kinsella said, each year, staff and volunteers baked and sold about 1000 cakes and slices, which were sold for $3 each.
"It's a bit of fun, and we really enjoy seeing some of the wonderful creations our volunteers make for us each year."
She said $300,000 was raised across the country last year, and the organisation hoped to beat that this year.
BNZ Rotorua store manager Amy Callaghan said the branch would be taking part again this year.
"We've got a number of staff passionate about the cause."
Callaghan said most of the staff had animals and were animal lovers.
"We love the fact we are supporting the local SPCA. They do great work for our community and our furry friends' community."
She said they also had volunteers who came in and helped them during the day.
"We have a bit of fun with it, and it's fun for our customers as they get to support a local cause and get some great baking at the same time.
