It's been nearly 30 years since Warren and Janet Monk have had a holiday away.
Apart from a trip to Japan in 1990, the Tarawera couple hasn't been anywhere - not even in New Zealand.
So they couldn't be more thrilled to be top bidders for a Norwegian Cruise at this year's Supper Club event, held in Rotorua on Wednesday last week.
Warren Monk said he and his wife regularly attended the annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald Charities - with funds raised locally going towards the upkeep of the two Ronald McDonald Family Retreats on the shores of Lake Rotorua at Ngongotahā.
However, this year Warren Monk had a plan up his sleeve as a surprise for his wife - to bid on the cruise donated by helloworld Travel Rotorua.
Much to their surprise, he was successful with his bid of $16,500 - all contributing to the event's final fundraising tally of $135,541.
The helloworld Travel Rotorua cruise includes return flights donated by Singapore Airlines from Auckland departing mid-August to Amsterdam and stopping over in Singapore.
There are two nights in Amsterdam at either end of the seven-night cruise with Holland America where all meals and entertainment are paid for.
Warren Monk said given he and Janet hadn't been anywhere in a long time, they were going to stay a bit longer to make the most of the trip.
He said they were thrilled to win and said the time was right given he, 68, and Janet, 69, were relatively fit and healthy still.
"I couldn't think of a more worthy cause to be involved with to be honest."
Helloworld Travel Rotorua owner and manager Deborah Kay, who has donated travel packages to Supper Club for the past seven years, said the Monks were worthy winners.
She said such a big prize couldn't be achieved without Singapore Airlines and Holland America.
"These are big international brand companies and they get asked to give sponsorship all the time yet they choose our event in Rotorua because they see the value of it for the community."
She said her business also saw the benefit of its donation, with new clients coming through the door each year based on their involvement with Supper Club.
The Ronald McDonald Family Retreats allow families dealing with sick children a place to get away.
Supper Club this year saw 49 tables of eight pre-sold and drawn to go to 49 different restaurants, cafes, venues and celebrity chefs around Rotorua.
Ticket holders first gathered at Novotel Rotorua while an auction took place before they headed to their dinner destinations.
