Rotorua's cup day went off without a hitch thanks to the warm weather and great atmosphere, says an organiser.

Rotorua Race Club general manager Damien Radesic said there was a record crowd with more than 1500 people.

"It was a brilliant day, the sun was shining, the place was full, and there was a great atmosphere going on."

While many went to see the action on the track, it was a good day out for those who just wanted to do something a bit different.

Entry was free, there was live music, kids' entertainment such as magic shows and lolly scrambles and losing ticket draws planned.

The next cup day will be held on June 29, and the Taumarunui gold cup day will be on July 30.

The Rotorua Plate Day will be held in October.
