Student's unusual video wins grant (+ video)

Having a unique sense of humour has landed Louise Woolhouse $5000 towards her accommodation fees at University of Canterbury.

The 18-year-old former John Paul College student uploaded a 60-second video about why she would love to live at UCA on to the I Love UCA Facebook page.

She received 647 likes for her video and she won one of the two $5000 scholarship prizes from global tertiary accommodation provider Campus Living Villages.

Louise's funny "UCA-itis" entry saw her appealing for an antidote to her obsession with University of Canterbury accommodation.

"I saw that a lot of the videos uploaded were a bit similar and I thought I could do something a bit different," she said.

"Having $5000 off my accommodation fees will definitely make it a lot easier for me financially, so I can put my money towards other things."

Louise intends to study a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Media and Communications and English, and thinks she would like to work in fashion PR.

"I am really excited to go to uni. I just think I have lived in Rotorua my whole life and I am ready to do something new and move to a new city."

While she did not really have an obsession with UCA, she was excited about studying there.

"I chose UCA because when I looked at the papers they had more contemporary English papers, rather than Shakespeare."

She will head down to Christchurch to study in February.
