An earthquake which hit 45km west of Tauranga this morning has been felt throughout the East Cape.
The 4.3 magnitude quake hit at 8.43am at a depth of 152km, offshore from Maketu.
People in Opotiki and the East Coast recorded several "felt" reports on the Geonet website.
One report from
Tolaga Bay classed the quake as being ''strong''.
