The jury deliberating the fate of a Rotorua man charged with murdering a stop-go worker has this morning watched CCTV footage of what the police say was the accused's vehicle in the hours leading up to the shooting.
Quinton Winders' trial for the murder of George Taiaroa is now in its ninth day in the Rotorua High Court.
Taiaroa was shot dead at 3.10pm while operating a stop-go sign at roadworks on Tram Rd, Atiamuri, north of Taupo, on March 19, 2013.
Detective Roger Whale showed the jury CCTV footage from Taumarunui showing glimpses of Winders' blue Jeep Cherokee coming in from the west of the town. A number plate matching Winders' vehicle is seen driving past the Post Shop at 1.26pm on the day Taiaroa was shot.
The last glimpse is of the Jeep leaving the town, outside Brian Collins Machinery on State Highway 4, at 1.38pm.
