One lane is now open on State Highway 2 near Ōpōtiki but the New Zealand Transport Agency is advising people to remain cautious.
A slip occurred in the early hours of the morning at the Waiotahi bluff and one lane opened this afternoon.
NZTA Bay of Plenty transport system manager, Rob Campbell, said people should still expect delays while the rest of the slip was cleared.
He said people should take extra care and be prepared to stop at short notice in the eastern Bay of Plenty as the latest heavy rain was making the area prone to slips and trees coming down.
All road users are also advised to drive with extra caution and prepare for delays on State Highway 35 between Ōpōtiki and Gisborne due to multiple slips and drop-outs. The road is reduced to one lane at several locations, particularly between Hawai and Omaio.
