Update: A large slip blocking the southbound lane of State Highway 1 just south of Hallets Bay on Lake Taupo overnight has been cleared.
A slip near Taupo closed State Highway 1 to one lane for over seven hours.
The slip occurred around 10pm near Bulli Point, a Police Northern Communications Centre spokeswoman said.
The road was reopened to two lanes around 5am, however crews are still on site clearing residual debris.
