A Rotorua skating enthusiast wants to turn one of the large empty shops in Rotorua into a covered skate rink to provide a venue for skate sports as well as other entertainment.
Layla Robinson has resurrected her Facebook campaign and has put her ideas forward to the Rotorua District Council.
She wants an existing building to be converted and for the rink to be available for a variety of community groups. It also has the potential to host national roller derby tournaments.
"Rotorua is such a central place, I don't know why we don't already have one," she said.
"There are so many large empty buildings in Rotorua, maybe we could make that work. Building new stuff is all well and good but using something that's there would be cheaper and makes more sense."
