A severe weather warning has been put in place for parts of the country, including the Bay of Plenty.
Heavy rain is expected today and tomorrow in the west and north of the South Island, as well as north Taranaki, Tongariro National Park and the Bay of Plenty.
A complex low over the Tasman Sea and its associated fronts are forecast to affect many parts of New Zealand.
Heavy rain associated with the fronts is expected to affect the west and north of the South Island today and the northern half of the North Island from this evening through to tomorrow night.
The heaviest falls are expected about Mount Taranaki where up to 220mm may accumulate, and also about northwest Nelson where up to 180mm is likely about the ranges.
