The Bay of Plenty women's brilliant run at the Bayleys National Sevens in Rotorua has come to an end, after being defeated 35-10 in their semifinal match against Auckland.

Auckland and defending champions Manawatu will meet in the cup final at the Bayleys National sevens later today.

Meanwhile, the Bay women and Waikato will play a 3rd/4th playoff at 2.45pm today.

It was an incredible effort to make the semifinals for the Bay women, who were heavily struck by injury in the lead-up to the nationals.

They won three out of four pool matches yesterday then defeated Counties Manukau 14-12 earlier today to advance to the semifinals.

The Bay men's team are still in contention for a national title and will play Waikato in the cup semifinals at 2.35pm at the Rotorua International Stadium. They defeated Northland 17-12 earlier today in the quarter-finals.

The other men's semifinal will see Counties Manukau go up against defending champions Wellington.
