An appeal against the sentences given to two people who killed Moko Rangitoheriri will be held in November.
David Haerewa and Tania Shailer have appealed their sentences for killing the 3-year-old.
The pair were sentenced in June to 17 years in jail with a minimum non-parole period of nine years after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
The Court of Appeal will hear the appeals together on November 3 in Wellington.
Their sentence was the longest handed out in New Zealand for the manslaughter of a child.
